Changes are sometimes cataclysmic, but generally they're incremental and noticed only in their accumulative effect suddenly when it reaches a certain level. Looking at the leaves in our front yard last night it was obvious that the change in one leaf, while seeming insignificant, contributed to the eventual effect of the fall colored tree. The one colored leaf amongst the green hardly showed, yet without each single one leaf making its change, no change could be apparent in the whole tree.
Similarly, if we're out to change the world, we need to start with our own one, ourself, and make it the best it can be. None of the leaves on the tree changes another one, but together a change becomes apparent in the whole. Probably the analogy should be left there. It certainly provides for a course of action that is a start.
